Scripture Union Daily Guide 17th March 2025 Outline

Note this Gentile woman’s persistent faith (Matthew 15:25-28). A challenge to us! She did not allow any of the challenges she faced to discourage or dissuade her from her continuous search and plea for solution to her dear daughter’s problem. First, Jesus appeared not to hear her plea. He did, even though silent. Believers over the ages have been faced with situations when God seemed silent.

See Psalms 28:1 for an example. Many people have missed their blessings because they quit praying too quickly. They could not hear or see God acting on their behalf, and at their rate and pace. Jesus urged us to keep seeking, keep asking and keep knocking (Matthew 7:7-8). This pagan woman understood this principle.

The disciples’ objection could have discouraged anyone but not this woman. Sometimes listening to the voices of fellow believers rather than what God says may discourage us from waiting on God.
Jesus’ initial response (Matthew 15:26) can be readily misunderstood. Even that possibility did not change her focus.

We also must fight against all odds and persist in prayer until we receive our blessings.
Jesus still heals the sick (Matthew 15:29-31) and feeds the hungry today (Matthew 15:32-39); how can we introduce Him to our ailing relations, friends and neighbours? Follow Andrew’s and Philip’s example (John 1:40-46).

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Take time to intercede for a loved one who is still under the influence and control of sin and Satan!
